County Carlow Sports Star Awards.
Emma with Sensei Patsy Whelan
Our very own Emma Furey received the Nationalist's Sports Star Award for October - December 2008 in Jan in the Seven Oaks Hotel.
Emma gained "World Champion" status after her brilliant performance in Slovenia in October 2008 after achieving Gold at the competition.
She excelled after beating off competitors from 22 counteries.
Emma has trained for the past two years for the 6th world championships when her dedication to karate paid off.
Emma represented her club and country with honour and is an excellent role model for the younger students within the club.
The club is very proud of Emma and her achievement and we are hoping that her status at world level will only encourage others within the club to be the best that they can be.
Congrats to Emma on achieving overall winner on the night for the Oct-Dec awards.
Emma received another award at the annual gala dinner hosted by the Nationalist newspaper. The guest speaker Jack Charlton presented Emma with the award at a packed venue at the Seven Oaks.
Photographs of the event will be available shortly on the website.

We apologise to our future students of the month but unfortunately the protection of our children is the club's main priority.

8th Milton Keynes

Over 50 medals and 3 Best in Competition were brought home to Ireland from Milton Keynes. The weekend was very enjoyable and Milton Keynes put on a great show and looked after the club very well. Credit where credit is due.
All of the students attending had a brilliant time and the club did very well in bringing home so many awards.
Peggy and Sheila did their usual "stuff" by making sure that everyone was set up for the weekend. It is not always said but always thought, only for the pair of them nothing would get done. Thanks ladies.
Well done to everyone.

The Rule Of Karate.
The rule of Karate in the modern age is multiple. As a means of self defence, it is widely taught in private clubs, and in Japan it is part of the training program for policemen and members of the armed forces. A great number of colleges now include Karate in their physical education programmes and an increasing number of women are learning techniques. In Japan and elsewhere in the world Karate is gaining popularity as a competitive sport, one which stresses mental discipline as well physical prowess. What was originally developed in the Orient as a martial art has survived and changed throughout the centuries to become not only a highly effective means of unarmed self defence but also an exciting, challenging sport enjoyed by enthusiasts throughout the world.
Karate Motto
I come to you only with Karate, (empty hand)
I have no weapons ,
Should I be forced to defend myself,
My honour, my family or my beliefs,
Then here are my weapons, Karate. (empty hand)
